Thursday Thirteen #9

Thirteen reasons I’m glad I’m single on Valentine’s Day this year

This is the first time in 11 years I’ve been single on Valentine’s Day, so I’m celebrating that. There are lots of reasons I’m not glad I’m single  but I’m going to focus on the positive.

Oh, and before I forget to mention it…stop by Romance Worth Killing For if you get a chance and help us create some characters and a storyline for an online read we’re putting together. If you want to check it out, scroll down to the Sunday, February 4th post and leave your character ideas in a comment there.

On to my list…

1. I don’t have to worry about getting dressed up and going out to dinner in the freezing cold in the middle of the week.
2. I get my bed all to myself, and I don’t have to deal with anyone else’s snoring.
3. If I feel like lounging around in my sweatpants and a ratty t-shirt all day, I can.
4. I don’t have to spend five bucks on a card that’s just going to get thrown away, anyway.
5. No fattening chocolate that I really don’t need in the first place
6. I get to pick the movie I watch, and there won’t be any arguing.
7. If the muse is cooperating, I can write all night long and not have to worry about keeping anyone else company.
8. I don’t have to find a babysitter
9. I don’t have to worry about coming home to a destroyed house (see number 8)
10. I won’t get any last minute grocery store roses that are usually dead by the next morning.
11. I won’t get a sappy card I know my SO didn’t even bother to read before signing his name to it.
12. There’s no pressure to spend a fortune on a gift that will get ignored almost as soon as it’s opened.
13. I can sit back and relax, realizing V-Day really is just another day.

  1. Cute list. Pretty much applies to being married on valentines day most years too. lol have a great one. Here via the special edition TT meet and greet.

  2. lol. Awesome list!

I’m married and dreading Valentine’s Day. Just another reason to spend unnecessary money. Love is supposed to be shown all the time, not just on a given day. Hubby and I really don’t care what we do on that day, and going out means fighting crowds. We’d just as soon stay home. In our sweats. ;-)

  3. Good for you! I love your list, though I’m married and lounge around in my sweats when I’m home. :)

    Happy TT!

  4. Terrific list and fab blog! LOL at the snoring :)

Thanks for stopping by my TT!

  5. Thanks for visiting! Jaci–order takeout. Then you can stay in your sweats and be comfy.

Christine and Cinderella–this is my first year not being married for the holiday and I’m really looking forward to it.

Tawny–I *really* don’t miss the snoring.

  6. You go, girl! That’s what I’m doing too…

  7. Thanks for stopping by, May. I think I’m really going to enjoy it this year.

  8. I haven’t had a SO for Valentine’s Day since I graduated from college 10+ years ago. It definitely isn’t that bad being single for the holiday, though I definitely indulge in the chocolate!

  9. Your name was above mine on the TT Blogroll List. :) I agree with you that Valentine’s is over-rated. I’m divorced (happily so) and while my ex was more-or-less pretty thoughtful, I think a lot of it was simply out of habit. I’d much rather have my partner/spouse come home and do a sink of dirty dishes than bring me a box of chocolates! Show the love *every* day, if you know what I mean. Anyway, you sound very content and I hope that you have a Happy Valentine’s Day, however you spend it. Happy TT!

  10. Great TT!

I hate Valentine’s Day – I want to be treated like a damn princess every day!

  11. Annie–I would indulge on chocolate, too…except for this stupid diet.

Nancy–You’re right. It would mean so much more that way.

    Victoria–I totally agree with you.

  12. Those all sound like really good reasons to me! :O) I have gotten used to the snoring unfortunately… sometimes i can’t sleep without it! Happy TT!

  13. I hate Valentine’s Day, mainly b/c no matter where I was in my life (single or married) it was always the same…nothing for me. I’d just as soon skip it.

  15. LOL, way to make lemonade! I’m married but I’ve got kids underfoot so we don’t get out much anyway. But I do love chocolate.

  16. I hear ya on the kids, Lauren. I have 3 of them–though they’re getting to the age now where they’re not underfoot quite as much most of the time. My oldest is hardly ever home.

  17. I’m a big believer that Valentine’s Day is just another day.

    Here’s my TT: http://joanswan.blogspot.com/

  18. Mary–that’s too funny about the snoring. That was one thing I was never able to get used to when I was married.
